3 Tasty Dessert Recipes for Edibles

Have a holiday party or want to make a festive treat for Christmas? Leafy8 has you covered! We have three delicious, winter-themed recipes infused with hemp, and we’re teaching you how to make them! We are making sugar cookies, chocolate fudge, and cake balls! Edibles have been a long-time favorite of the cannabis/hemp community. If you’ve never made edibles, don’t worry! It’s just like normal baking but with an extra step.

How Edibles Compare to Inhalables

Those who smoke or vape cannabis/hemp know the effects can be felt within moments of inhaling. The same cannot be said for edibles, as they have to be digested. It takes approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours to be felt. However, once they begin to take effect, edibles are said to last longer and feel more potent than inhalables. This difference can be the result of several factors. The two main reasons are the amount of THC lost in combustion/vaporization and how the body digests cannabis/hemp.

Cannabutter Recipe

HHC-Pure-DistillateD8-Pure-DistillateBefore baking, we must prepare the most important ingredient; Cannabutter. Cannabutter is very easy to make. All you need are two items: 1 stick of unsalted butter and a 1-gram distillate syringe from Leafy8. We carry Delta-8 THC and HHC syringes, so use whichever you prefer.

First, we will melt the butter. You can either use the microwave method or the stovetop method. While melting, it is crucial to keep the butter under 200 degrees to avoid THC degradation.

Once the butter is melted, it is time to add the distillate. Distillate is a dense, honey-like substance. To loosen it, place the syringe in a cup of hot water or gently warm it up using a torch or other heating device.

With a whisk or spatula, mix ingredients until the distillate is evenly incorporated throughout.

There are 1000mg in each Leafy8 syringe. This amount will be divided by how many servings you make of these items. For example, if you make 24 cookies, they would be approximately 42 mg per cookie. If you want a lower dose, replace half the cannabutter in the recipe with regular butter.

Distillate & Vegetable Oil

For one of our three recipes, we will not be using butter but fear not! It can still be infused. You will need to use a carrier oil high in fats, like vegetable oil. For this, you will not need to heat the oil.

Heat the distillate in a cup of hot water or with direct heat, then combine with the oil. Mix thoroughly.

We suggest calculating the milligrams per serving based on the amount of oil in the recipe. Our cake ball recipe calls for ⅓ cup of vegetable oil and yields approximately 36 servings. If you put the whole syringe in, that makes for 28 mg per serving. If you are looking for a lower dose, use half the amount of infused oil and replace it with regular vegetable oil. You can also add less distillate – there are markings on our syringes that will show you how much was used in order to do the dosage calculations.

Important Notes Before Cooking:

Wait at Least 1 Hour After Consumption

Edibles take between 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect. Only take another serving after you feel the full effects and are looking for a more powerful experience. It’s a common mistake to redose too soon, potentially leading to an undesirable outcome. You can always take more, but you can’t take less. So Start Low and Go Slow.

Cannabis & Hemp-Derived Products Affect Everyone Differently

Cannabis and hemp-derived products affect each person differently based on several factors such as tolerance, age, and more. Do individualized research to better personalize your experience and ensure you have a positive reaction.

Enjoy Responsibly

Keep infused baked goods out of reach of children and pets. Only those adults 21 years of age or older should make these recipes and/or consume them. Please inform anyone who consumes them of the ingredients and potential side effects.

Edible Tolerance Graph

This graph depicts dosage recommendations based on tolerance levels. This is a generalized chart meaning it does not account for individualized factors. We advise everyone to do their research before consuming any hemp/cannabis product.

Sugar Cookies

48 servings / approximately 21 mg per serving

2 ¾ cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

½ cup cannabutter, ½ cup unsalted butter (1 gram of distillate used in this recipe)

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 375°

Stir dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder) together.

In a separate bowl, blend sugar and cannabutter until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla.

Gradually combine the cannabutter mixture with the dry ingredients.

Roll dough into 2-inch diameter balls and place on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake in a preheated oven until the edges are golden brown or 8-10 minutes. Let cookies cool for 2-3 minutes before removing them from the pan.

Once cooled, they can be decorated with icing or eaten as is!

Chocolate Fudge

16 servings / approximately 31 mg per serving

3 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1 (14 oz) can of sweetened condensed milk

¼ cup of cannabutter (cut into pieces, ½ gram of distillate used in this recipe)

Combine ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the mixture on medium until chocolate chips are melted. To prevent scorched chocolate, melt at two 2-minute intervals, stirring the mixture in between.

Grease an 8-inch square glass baking dish.

Remove the mixture from the microwave and carefully pour it into the prepped dish.

Refrigerate for 2 hours to let the fudge set.

Cut into 16 pieces and enjoy!

Cake Balls

36 servings / approximately 28 mg per serving

1 Box Cake mix of your choice

1 Cup Water

3 Large Eggs

⅓ cup infused vegetable oil (1 gram of distillate used in this recipe)

1 (16 oz.) container of frosting of your choice

1 (3 oz.) bar of almond bark or confectionery coating

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Then line a baking tray with wax paper.

Blend cake mix, water, eggs, and oil in a large bowl. While you can combine by hand, we suggest using an electric mixer on low. Blend until moistened, then beat until smooth. Once finished, pour the batter into the baking dish.

Bake in the oven until completely done. We suggest following the time on the box mix. Let cool.

Crumble cake in a large bowl; Stir in frosting until well incorporated. Use a small scoop or measuring spoon to scoop the mixture into balls. Place them on the previously prepared baking sheet.

Place cake balls in the freezer until chilled. Chilling takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

While you wait, melt your coating in a glass bowl in the microwave. We suggest using 1-2 minute intervals. Make sure to stir in between intervals to avoid scorched chocolate.

Once they are chilled, remove the cake balls from the freezer. Using a skewer or fork, dip them into the melted chocolate. Return to the pan once coated to set.

An optional step is you can decorate with sprinkles immediately after the cake balls are dipped or drizzle leftover chocolate on them once they’ve set up. Otherwise. Once set up, your cake balls are ready to serve!
