Walking into an alternative products shop and seeing the various options can be daunting at first. With so many options, it can be hard to choose a product. That is where the budtender comes in! The term budtender refers to a staff member in the cannabis or hemp industry who helps customers. Leafy8 budtenders are educated in our cannabinoids and products and are equipped to help you find your perfect product. However, there is some preparation that you, as the customer, can do to help yourself and your budtender.
Do your Research
While our budtenders can be very knowledgeable, they don’t have all the answers. Before trying hemp-derived products, we suggest researching the cannabinoid you’re interested in and seeing if it best aligns with your preferences and needs. Once you have a cannabinoid, talk to your physician to make sure that the cannabinoid is right for you.
Below we’ve curated 4 questions to ask yourself before talking with a budtender. These questions will better equip you and your budtender to find the product that will work best. By being prepared, your experience will go much smoother and quicker.
Questions to Ask Yourself
#1: How do you want to consume hemp?
There are several ways to consume and use hemp. Some of the most common methods are edibles, vapes, smokeables, and concentrates. Each method can affect people differently, as they are being consumed differently. For example, a vape can be felt almost instantaneously, while an edible can take 45 minutes to an hour to kick in. Consequently, this also affects how long your experience will last.
Another factor to account for is investment. When smoking, you will need an apparatus or papers to roll with. Similarly, a vape cartridge will need either a battery or a vape. While these are generally sold alongside the products, be aware of the equipment needed for certain methods.
While a budtender may be able to answer many of your questions, we recommend doing independent research on your method and then coming in with questions about the store’s products.
#2: What is your tolerance?
When buying any hemp-derived product, it is important to keep your tolerance in mind. While some products seem unassuming, taking too much can lead to an unpleasant experience. Telling your budtender your experience with hemp will give them a better idea of products to recommend and products to steer away from.
If you’re new to hemp or don’t have a tolerance built up, talk with your budtender about low-dose products or products they recommend for newcomers.
#3: How much are you looking to spend?
Leafy8 prides itself on having products for a variety of incomes, however, some products require more investment than others. Think about your budget and plan for what you will need/want for your hemp session.

#4: How long do you want to be inebriated?
Hemp is a psychoactive compound, and can mentally and physically affect you in various ways. This inebriation is dependent on your tolerance, dosage, and method. Some products are more potent and will last longer while others are low dosage and will fade quicker. We also offer non-psychoactive products, such as CBD.
Be sure to let your budtender know what kind of experience you would like so they can better direct you to the product that aligns with your preferences.
Coming into a shop/dispensary with these questions answered will make your shopping experience much more pleasant. It will save you time and potential confusion at the counter. Our budtenders want to help you find the product that best works for you, so help them help you.
