As more states began to legalize cannabis, more and more people have started to switch from alcohol to THC. Many see this as a way to live healthier and safer. It is no secret the effects of alcohol on a person’s body and life. THC offers much more variety in consumption and fewer health risks. While there is no cut-and-dry answer to what works best, we are covering the pros and cons of switching from alcohol to THC.

This article is not to say that alcohol is entirely bad and shouldn’t be consumed, but rather that THC is an alternative for those who struggle with alcohol abuse or are worried about the health concerns with alcohol.

Understanding THC

Delta-8 and Delta-9 are cannabinoids found in cannabis. These compounds are responsible for the signature effect cannabis is known for. They are known for their euphoric, relaxing effect on the endocannabinoid system.

Like alcohol, these compounds are psychoactive and alter cognitive function, sensory perception, and mood. However, alcohol can come with severe consequences if not used in moderation.

Alcohol VS. THC

As states began to legalize cannabis, many people have moved from alcohol to THC as a way to healthier living and more variety. While there is still much to be known about cannabis’s long-term effects, much of the research supports that it does less damage over time than alcohol.

One of the largest concerns that comes with THC is lung damage from smoking and vaping. However, edibles have become widely popular and offer a lung-safe alternative to THC consumption.

Many are aware of what alcohol abuse can do to someone, such as alcoholism and liver damage. Alcohol abuse affects not only the person consuming it, but those around them. This is more than enough reason to tone back your consumption. However, this is not to say having a glass every once in a while is bad. Just remember to indulge in moderation.

Pros and Cons of Switching From Alcohol to THC

It’s no secret that alcohol can have devastating effects on our bodies and even our relationships. With side effects of alcoholism, liver damage, and potential trauma, what makes alcohol so appealing? With these factors, it’s no question why people choose to switch.

You may be wondering, does switching have any benefit? Isn’t it trading one vice for another? While that is true, there are several benefits of consuming THC over alcohol.

Pros

Cleaner Consumption: Removing alcohol can improve heart health, blood pressure, and liver and kidney function.* Cannabis also is not fatal if you consume too much, unlike alcohol.

Better Relationships: Alcohol tends to make people violent or angry, while THC is less likely to make someone violent. In a 2016 study conducted by Psychopharmacology, they state,” Alcohol intoxication increased subjective aggression whereas cannabis decreased the subjective aggression following aggression exposure.” THC, while possible, does not typically result in violent outbursts.

Better Mornings: Heavy THC use can lead to a bleary-eyed morning, but this is nothing compared to a typical alcohol-induced hangover. With THC, you won’t wake up dehydrated and green in the face.

Cons

Societal Acceptance: It is no secret that there is a prejudice against THC consumption. In many places, it is frowned upon to consume THC, as many have lost jobs or relationships due to it. Alcohol is more widely accepted and even advertised.

Legality: As of writing this, there are 25 recreational use states and 48 medical states. That being said, THC legality varies across states with specific regulations. Alcohol is legal everywhere and readily available at most stores.

Cannabis Dependency: While this isn’t common, like any substance, people can become dependent on cannabis when it is consumed constantly.

Tips for Making the Switch:

Start Low, Go Slow

With any new substance, it is important to start small. THC can affect everyone differently, depending on several factors such as weight, age, tolerance, metabolism, etc. If the effect isn’t as strong as you want, we recommend waiting 1-2 hours for edibles before redosing and 5-10 minutes for vaping and smoking.  Remember, you can always take more but you can’t take less.

Understanding the Different Methods

Different methods of consumption have different experiences and durations. Edibles can typically be felt for 2-4 hours after consumption, but they can take 1-2 hours to manifest. Smoking and Vaping can be felt almost instantaneously and can last for 2-3 hours. We recommend doing individualized research to find which method works best for you. Enjoy Responsibly

Safety is our number 1 priority. If you’re planning on consuming THC, make sure you’re doing it in a safe environment, preferably with people you trust. It’s also important to stay aware of the laws and regulations in your area. If you have any health concerns, it’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for advice on cannabis consumption. Stay safe and enjoy responsibly!

In conclusion, as more states legalize cannabis, many people are switching from alcohol to THC as a way to live healthier and safer. While alcohol has severe consequences if not used in moderation, THC offers more variety in consumption and fewer health risks. However, it is important to consume THC responsibly and be aware of the prejudice and legalities surrounding it.
