What are Cannabinoids

What are Cannabinoids?

Step into a world where nature meets science. Discover the fascinating realm of cannabinoids—tiny compounds with colossal impacts on our bodies and minds. Many have only heard the word in passing and are unsure what it means. Leafy8 focuses on educating the public on all things hemp and cannabis-related, and we’re doing just that. Come with us as we explore what cannabinoids are, the different types of cannabinoids, and what ones are accessible to the public.

Understanding Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids refer to any compounds that bind to cannabinoid receptors. While they can come from various sources, they are primarily found in cannabis and hemp plants. With over 100 different cannabinoids on these plants, they vary in concentration and potency.

There are over 100 identified cannabinoids, with plenty more to be discovered. These cannabinoids can be categorized into two groups: Endocannabinoids and Phytocannabinoids.

Endocannabinoids are cannabinoids within the body. The body has an endocannabinoid system that helps to regulate and balance bodily functions. This system produces its endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to receptors in the nervous system.

Phytocannabinoids are the cannabinoids present in plants. These are the most well-known kinds of cannabinoids. For example, some cannabinoids in this category are THC, CBD, CBN, and many more.

Major and Minor Cannabinoids

When talking about cannabinoids, there are some more noteworthy than others. Some major cannabinoids are THC and CBD. These two are the most popular of the cannabinoids. THC breaks down into several forms, such as Delta-8, Delta-9, HHC, and several other variations. As mentioned before, these cannabinoids vary in concentration and potency.

Delta-8 and HHC are found in small concentrations on the cannabis plants, while Delta-9 and CBD are found in higher concentrations.

These cannabinoids can work together to provide experiences unlike any other. “The second major compound, CBD, does not affect locomotor activity, body temperature or memory on its own.” Zerrin Atakan, psychiatrist, states in her 2014 medical study on Cannabis, “However, higher doses of CBD can potentiate the lower doses of d-9-THC by enhancing the level of CB1R expression in the hippocampus and hypothalamus.” In her study, Atakan found that higher doses of CBD can make lower doses of Delta-9 more potent.

Leafy8’s Cannabinoids

Leafy8 sells four different kinds of cannabinoids: Delta-8, Delta-9, HHC, and CBD. Each compound has its unique properties and effects:

Delta-8

Delta-8 is a psychoactive cannabinoid that can produce a pleasant, uplifting experience that leans more toward relaxation than stimulation. It has a lesser potency than Delta-9 and HHC and has been reported to produce less paranoia and anxiety when consumed.

Delta-9

Delta-9 is a psychoactive cannabinoid that can produce an uplifting, joyful experience. It is the highest potency cannabinoid we carry. Because it is so potent, it can be more abrasive. This compound can be intense at times, so those prone to anxiety or paranoia should be cautious when taking Delta-9.

HHC

HHC is a psychoactive cannabinoid that can produce a more clear-headed experience but has a body-high effect. It is higher in potency than Delta-8 but less potent than Delta-9. While its effects are similar to Delta-9, users have reported that HHC can have a longer duration of action.*

CBD

CBD is the most commonly known cannabinoid. While it has no psychoactive effects, many use it for its potential relief from pain.* This cannabinoid works primarily with the endocannabinoid system in the body.

Cannabinoids are small compounds that have a powerful effect. Beyond these two categories, there are major and minor cannabinoids. We at Leafy8 carry the four main cannabinoids: Delta-8, Delta-9, HHC, and CBD. When consuming these cannabinoids, it’s crucial to know what they are and how they will affect you. Keep educating yourself, and stay safe.
